Hidden Springs Wildfire Preparedness Days - May 4th and 5th

Wildland fires can happen anywhere at any time during fire-season.  Be prepared!
The Open Space and Firewise Committee kicks off this year's Hidden Springs Wildfire Preparedness Project with a door to door community education campaign. The resource information attached identifies a number of risk factors for homes in the wildland urban interface (or WUI).  The WUI refers to the zone of transition between unoccupied land and human development. Communities that are within 0.5 miles (0.80 km) of the zone may also be included. The lands and communities adjacent to and surrounded by wildlands are at increased risk of wildfires.
Wildfire doesn’t have to burn everything in its path.  In fact, cleaning your property of debris and maintaining your landscaping are important steps to help minimize devastating damage and loss.
This education campaign runs April 1st through May 1st and will be followed by debris removal on May 4th and 5th.  You can use the checklist in the “Reducing Wildfire Risks in the Home Ignition Zone” poster provided, or contact Jerry McAdams, Boise Fire Department Wildfire Mitigation Office at 208-570-6576 or via email at, JMcAdams@cityofboise.org for a wildfire home safety evaluation.
Call or email the Town Office (208-229-2323 or email hsta@hiddensprings.com) to register for the event and then, get to work!
On Friday May 4th and Saturday May 5th residents who registered will benefit from complimentary curbside pick-up of debris.
Rake and remove pine needles and dry leaves within a minimum of 3 to 5 feet of a home’s foundation
Use hand pruners and loppers on mature trees to remove low-hanging branches up to a height of 6 feet for deciduous and 4 feet for evergreen, remove water sprouts, suckers and dead or broken limbs.
Collect downed tree limbs and broken branches
Materials must be separated and placed curbside for pick up by 9:00 am on your scheduled day.
Bagged leaves will go to the community farm for mulch
Bagged organic debris will go to landfill
Stacked limbs and branches - no larger than 5” in diameter will be hauled to the community farm for chipping
Every resident who participates in the Wildfire Preparedness Day Event and helps Hidden Springs reduce our risk from wildfire and meet the Firewise USA program requirements for 2019 certification, will be entered in a drawing to win a $300.00 Home Depot gift card!
The work we do today can make a difference and reduce our community’s wildfire risk tomorrow!
